Thank you for the info Michael. I'll check out that website. I had a lack of common sense and I hadn't written down the serial number of the laptop. I remembered the exact model, the stickers on the screen/lid and the OS I use (kubuntu). Luckily it was in suspend and needed a password to get back in. Ha! Take that criminal! And don't worry, the laptop I'm getting today has some sweet features and I plan to encrypt it all over again.
I'm going to be checking with local pawn shops on Tuesday to see if they've seen it.
