Hello All: Just wanted to test out the new and "improved" mailing list for our group.
In addition I would like to add a few ideas and observations that are related to marketing Ubuntu as a replacement for the desktop versions of Microsoft(R) Windows(R). 1) Keep the message simple and straight to the point, avoid any negative comments about anything. 2) Stick to one subject or one reason that people would want to use Ubuntu (i.e. A Single "Sell". For example, if the "Sell" is Ubuntu is "Free" then talk about everything that has to do with it's "Free-ness". 3) Be careful who you give the Live-CD's. If they are not experienced computer users that have used more then one operating system in their life don't give them a Live-CD. It's okay to show them how Ubuntu works using the Live CD, but don't leave non-experienced users on their own with it. You could scare them back to Windows forever. 4) Design Fliers in different sizes Letter Size is good for community bulletin boards and 1/4 Page size is good for counter tops next to the cash register at Coffee Shops. They also could include a small 1'' X 3'' area on them that a business that provides support for Ubuntu could put a mailing size label with their name and phone number.
