I have the same monitor ASUS VW202SR LCD, attached to a VIA K8M890.
With Ubuntu 8.04 I didn't have any issue using vesa driver (v1.3).
I ugraded to 8.10 and the default driver was a buggy openchrome, I forced the
vesa (v2.0).
It worked with an old kernel (2.6.24 from the previuos installation) and vesa.

I upgraded to 9.04, openchrome detects the right minitor size, but it is still
buggy.
Vesa doesn't detect any frequency and I can't see anything from the monitor.

 "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" doesn't work.
