Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I tested KMS + UXA on a Dell Latitude E6400 with an Intel X4500MHD
according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting.

If I am logged in and initiate suspend by pressing Fn+F1, the screen is locked
and then the machine suspends successfully.
On resume I can instantly see the unlock dialog. Sometimes it then hangs before
I am able to enter my password (i.e. the cursor does not blink, mouse
unavailable, keyboard input completely ignored, unable to vtswitch).
The system is still up and running (responding to ssh etc). If I try to restart
GDM remotely, the display output doesn't change a bit. Several processes of the
X session go into zombie state (according to ps).

If I try to start e.g. gedit remotely while X is still running (but
frozen), strace reports this and then waits:

[...]
select(4, [3], [3], NULL, NULL) = 1 (out [3])
writev(3, [{"l\0\v\0\0\0\22\0\20\0\0\0", 12}, {"", 0}, {"MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1",
18}, {"\0\0", 2}, {"\360\235\373\302\23\344\334G\256\331\304\247\376N\235\345",
16}, {"", 0}], 6) = 48
read(3, 0xe12110, 8) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, NULL

Without KMS and with EXA (default setup on Karmic) I was able to suspend/resume
11 times in a row without a problem, with KMS and UXA I could only successfully
suspend/resume a couple of times, most of the time it didn't work and required
a reboot before the machine was fully usable again.
