** Description changed: System is an old Compaq Presario 2266, Cyrix 6x86MX (M2?) CPU at 225MHz, 256MB RAM, SiS 5597 integrated video. Display is an Optiquest Q19wb, 1440x900 LCD. Previously under Intrepid I was using the appropriate SiS driver (sis_drv.o), it was automatically detecting 1440x900 resolution and giving adequate performance. Now under Jaunty it refuses to use the SiS driver, always ends up using vesa_drv.o. This insists on using 1024x768 resolution (the monitor auto-stretches the pixels, so everything's pretty chunky); and it's very slow. Aside from all that, and the true subject of this bug report: most times that I login, I am greeted by an Apport window telling me that Xorg dumped core. This seems odd since Xorg is running at the very moment, to display that window. It is either being started twice and succeeding the second time; or it's crashing during the previous shutdown. I think it's at startup time because startup is very slow (as if impeded by a simultaneous crash dump), while shutdown is so fast that I doubt a dump could be written in the given time. The dumps don't seem to cause any actual service outage, besides waiting for the dump to complete and telling Apport to go away (or in this case, report it). Has been happening since I first installed Xubuntu from the alpha-4 i386 alternate CD. I've been keeping it updated since then (installing the latest packages every 24-or-less hours). Several kernel updates have gone by, and at least one Xorg update, but the same thing is still happening. Hope this helps, >Bela< ProblemType: Crash Architecture: i386 CrashCounter: 1 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/Xorg Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.5.99.902-0ubuntu7 ProcAttrCurrent: unconfined ProcCmdline: /usr/bin/X :0 -br -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.28-8-generic (bui...@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-3ubuntu5) ) #23-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 18 03:23:10 UTC 2009 Signal: 11 SourcePackage: xorg-server StacktraceTop: DamageUnregister () shadowRemove () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules//libshadow.so ??
