Same problem. Intel 945. A few details: it happens when cursor is over a regular area like a browser window or a gnome panel, but doesn't happen when it is over a drop-down menu, be it gnome main menu or an application-specific one. When over a menu item, it doesn't disappear, but the pop-up text, if any, blinks every 2 sec or so (probably the same interval is for disappearing); the cursor itself doesn't seem to blink.
