Yes, I asked specifically because there is a(nother) regression in the latest stuff from xorg-edgers, so I was going to try everything from today and downgrade working backwards[1] until I found something that worked. But I'll give 2.7.99.901 +git20090611.6d062e9e-0ubuntu0sarvatt~jaunty a try first.
