Public bug reported: Having installed the xorg-driver-fglrx package but not using the fglrx driver makes the X server to die X will appear as X <defunc> and the screen will be filled with garbage (no terminal, no ctrl+alt+sup, just random pixels) The solution as found here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1148792 is to uninstall the packages as symbols crash in libdri. It took me quite a some time to find this out and try several solutions to related problems.
So I think this is a bug as a typical user will just hear about fglrx improves framerate, install it and see his Linux not booting anymore and no idea why. ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- black screen after booting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390118 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
