I'm running into the same issue with my mother-in-law's laptop - an hp
pavilion xh675.  Graphics Card is: Trident Microsystems CyberBlade/XP
(rev 63).  I can't enable the visual effects.  I had 8.10 and now have
9.04 with the same issue.
