I confirm the post above.
I did not have any problems on 10.04.

Alt+PrtScrn+REISUB won't work in this case.
If I remove ATI proprietary drivers and use open source ones, laptop will not 
freeze, but crashes X and throws me to login instead...
I can also confirm that the fan starts to spin faster when the system freezes / 
logs me out.
If I login with the safe mode session or low-res failsafe Xorg, system works 
fine...

I tried to move to older / newer kernel than the default one, but with no luck. 
Going back to pm-utils v.1.3 didn't solve the problem...no difference if it's 
on battery or AC power, it freezes anyway...

Strange thing is that, if I reboot / shut down the system a few times,
it starts to behave normally till the next reboot...
