I received the same error with Ubuntu 10.10 and everything updated to the lastest versions today. I found that disabling Xinerama stopped the problem from occurring. My backtrace was almost identical to that above on 11/23/2010.
My NVidia drivers are: 260.19.06 running on 64-bit system. I found this occurred when running mythfrontend as well as an application through an X forwarded ssh session on another computer. So I would agree it has something to do with xserver. I was able to confirm the user profile does NOT affect this problems.
