A few days ago my machine booted into terminal mode, could not get xorg to run at all. Eventually fixed by deleting /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I have just tried to recreate the display blanking problem that I reported here and I cannot recreate it any more. Not sure where that leaves us, let me know if I can provide any further info.
