In my situation this is something I found in the logs. I analyzed the logs and compared it to a normal log and besides the similar stack dump I see one significant difference in the problematic log is this:
[drm] radeon: 3584M of VRAM memory ready [drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready. whereas in the normal log: [drm] radeon: 512M of VRAM memory ready [drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready. The laptop has only 4GB RAM and ATI is supposed to have only 512MB. I have attached the relevant part of the log ** Attachment added: "logproblem.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/727620/+attachment/1881728/+files/logproblem.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727620 Title: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
