When I connect a VGA montor to the output on my Dell Inspirion (Intel
GM965) laptop, all the correct notices go off in KDE to allow me to
setup the 2nd monitor to be above/below etc. the LCD, but one of the
displays is always corrupted afterwards.

Trying with xrandr directly:
