Did you get a chance to test the elderberry PPA I posted? After that, one other thing I'd like you to test before this gets forwarded upstream, please install the drm-intel-next-proposed kernel here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next-proposed/ Reboot, then reproduce the problem. Run 'dmesg > dmesg.txt' and attach dmesg.txt and /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state to this bug report.
