Hello Patrick to switch from compiz to metacity and viceversa, by terminal: sudo metacity --replace (to use metacity), this is just a temporarily switch that disable every special effect and gives you the base desktop (without cube or others compiz plugins), at the reboot your system will be restored as ususal, if you don't want to reboot, simply sudo compiz --replace Is possible also in graphical way, but actually i cannot remeber how, because i upgraded to natty months ago. Well seems that our bugbot detect something interesting: Backtrace: [ 12698.351] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x80ef31b] [ 12698.351] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x5d00d) [0x80a500d] [ 12698.351] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0x14e40c] [ 12698.351] 3: /usr/bin/X (FreeClientResources+0xed) [0x80655ad] [ 12698.352] 4: /usr/bin/X (FreeAllResources+0x60) [0x8065680] [ 12698.352] 5: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1a606) [0x8062606] [ 12698.352] 6: /lib/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xe7) [0x2c2ce7] [ 12698.352] 7: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1a1b1) [0x80621b1] [ 12698.352] Backtrace: [ 12698.351] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x80ef31b] [ 12698.351] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x5d00d) [0x80a500d] [ 12698.351] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0x14e40c] [ 12698.351] 3: /usr/bin/X (FreeClientResources+0xed) [0x80655ad] [ 12698.352] 4: /usr/bin/X (FreeAllResources+0x60) [0x8065680] [ 12698.352] 5: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1a606) [0x8062606] [ 12698.352] 6: /lib/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xe7) [0x2c2ce7] [ 12698.352] 7: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1a1b1) [0x80621b1] [ 12698.352] Segmentation fault at address 0x4 [ 12698.352] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). This is a serious problem in the graphical Xorg server, so i mark this issue as confirmed. Thanks to reporting this issue. Fabio ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Description changed: + [ 12698.352] Segmentation fault at address 0x4 + When the mouse pointer closes a window by left click on the top-right button and the application takes a while to quit, a popup-window tells that the application has hung and you can select "wait" or "force quit". On my netbook this popup comes very often and I'm annoyed by it, because it sets the focus to the popup when I've started to work with an other window. What about having a popup that doesn't bring the hung window to front nor changes focus to the popup-window. I need to manually switch to the hung application to get the popup. - --- + --- Architecture: i386 DRM.card0.LVDS.1: - status: connected - enabled: enabled - dpms: On - modes: 1366x768 - edid-base64: AP///////wBMo1I0AAAAAAAUAQOAFg14CoWVmVdPjyYhUFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBOhtWe1AADDAwICUA330AAAAZAAAADwAAAAAAAAAAAB60AnQAAAAA/gBTQU1TVU5HCiAgICAgAAAA/gAxMDFBVDAzLTgwMQogAEA= + status: connected + enabled: enabled + dpms: On + modes: 1366x768 + edid-base64: AP///////wBMo1I0AAAAAAAUAQOAFg14CoWVmVdPjyYhUFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBOhtWe1AADDAwICUA330AAAAZAAAADwAAAAAAAAAAAB60AnQAAAAA/gBTQU1TVU5HCiAgICAgAAAA/gAxMDFBVDAzLTgwMQogAEA= DRM.card0.VGA.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: On - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: On + modes: + edid-base64: DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release i386 (20101007) MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
