The i915 is an uma architecture, i seen this bug for now only with update-manager when the progress indicator is running. Maybe the called programm draws to much or the x server did not claim more shared memory to allow this drawing. Switching to exa and give fixed 128mb memory can fix this. But unity is going very sluggish then.
