** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I've had a few OpenGL programs suffer from frozen screens when they use a full-screen mode on my EliteBook 8440p laptop. So far I have only found one way to reproduce the problem. * Launch Kubuntu's "system settings" app. * In the Display and Monitor control panel, select "Screen Saver", and choose an OpenGL Screen Saver. I tried Euphoria and Particle Fountain. Set the screen saver to start after 1 minute. * In the Power Management control panel, find a profile assigned to the Performance profile. Edit the Performance profile to enable display power management, standby after 2 minutes, suspend after 3 minutes. * Do nothing for 4 minutes, then touch a key. For me, the screen lights up showing the last frame of the screen saver . The cursor is active and changes shape as I move it, as if it were reacting to the unseen windows on the screen. Switching to console 1, I see an irregular stream of messages [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed ... GPU hung [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 Xorg.log ends with [ 4163.368] (WW) intel(0): i830_uxa_prepare_access: gtt bo map failed: Input/output error [ 4163.371] (EE) intel(0): Failed to submit batch buffer, expect rendering corruption or even a frozen display: Input/output error. The Asciiquarium and Blank Screen screen savers don't cause this problem.
