On a side note about exacerbation of the issue when DefaultDepth is set to 24: Not only does gradient color banding occur for `lxdm` (which was okay in 16bit depth), as `feh` and `gimp` (which were also okay in 16bit depth) exhibit the banding issue as well. So, I believe that confirms that it is not merely a PCManFM and/or GPicView issue, at least for the 24 bit depth. Why feh and/or gimp do not exhibit this issue when viewing the same file(s) when X is in 16bpp mode, however, is yet beyond me.
