I've not tried, but am about to try installing xserver-xorg-core
2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2 from
Jaunty, and will report back.

3 backtraces attached, occurring at 2 different places where it seems to
get stuck and use all available CPU:
