xserver-xorg-video-nv is no longer the default driver for NVIDIA graphics; it's switched to the new xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver, which uses kernel modesetting by default. The problem you're describing (black screen on boot) is a kernel modesetting error (KMS).
For workarounds, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting for the documented steps to turn off KMS. You can install 'xserver-xorg-video- nv' and then create an xorg.conf with the "nv" driver, or just use "vesa" as shown on that page. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800208 Title: nvidia graphics not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/800208/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
