Same issue with geforce 8600M GS in my Benq S41-R32 laptop. Currently using modified 10.04 LTS (mint 9).
Tried fresh 10.10, 11.04 ubuntu installations, tried kernels >2.6.32 (35,36,37,38 from deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu lucid-backports main universe multiverse restricted deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ppa/ubuntu lucid main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ppa/ubuntu lucid main) Got black screen, 'in this system is not supported' error in logs.
