Public bug reported:

Since Maverick, Ubuntu has enabled the fbdev driver by default instead
of the -intel driver for i8xx chipsets because of bug 541511 and its
cousins (cache-coherency; bug 27187 upstream [1]). This bug has been
fixed upstream and applied to the mainline linux kernel since 2.6.38-rc7
with the commit "agp/intel: Experiment with a 855GM GWB bit". As such,
Oneiric should not contain the fbdev workaround since its 3.0 kernel
contains the upstream patch.
