This may be related to interaction with BIOS or the CPU's, KMS, etc. This laptop has two GPU's. When I can successfully boot Ubuntu and shutdown, on the next boot, I see a BIOS message (below). I never see this message after shutting down Windows 7.

Pressed enter to continue Selected to Boot Ubuntu Hung with blank screen. 4. Wait 5 minutes 5. Hold power button until power off 6. Power on 7. Select boot windows 7 - Boot OK 8. Selected shutdown - OK powered down completely 9. Power on 10 Boot windows 7 11 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down 12. Boot windows 7 13 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down 14 Boot Ubuntu - OK 15 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down 16 Power on 17 Got BIOS message as above When I get the BIOS message, 8 out of 10 attempts to boot Ubuntu fail. When I get the BIOS message after attempting to boot Ubuntu, I can always boot Wiindows 7.
