Public bug reported:

The screen freezes and I can only manipulate the mouse curser. I can see
that the curser still is context sensitive (changes to I-beam shape over
text-fields etc), but there is no other response from X. Attaching to a
different console (ctrl-alt-#) gives me only a black screen, but I can
carefully log in blindly and get back into X by restarting the gdm
service.

I can reliably reproduce the problem by starting DavMail Gateway and a
mail client (tested with Thunderbird and Evolutuion). If I mouse over
the DavMail client icon in my status-bar, which would normally give me a
status pop-up, the screen will freeze if not running in Classic without
effects.

I'm running the 2.6.38-11 kernel and Ati Mobility radeon HD3650 with
catalyst version 11.5.
