Thank you Seth! Removing the battery worked. Booting into the freshly
installed Natty, the touchpad worked as before. After booting the live
usb (which I installed and removed your driver before) - where the
touchpad didn't work - it worked in no OS again. So I just took out the
battery again, and reinstalled Natty on the usb drive. The touchpad now
works again. So this is where I am now.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your dumps or xy_values. Attached
you'll find what sudo lsinput tells me.

This is all. I think the problem is related to the following three bug reports
(I'm experiencing the same issue) so it might help you understanding what
happens on my computer:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/747092 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/773165 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/782259

When do you think the next update of your driver will be available? I'm
thinking about returning the HP (if this annoying scrolling issue can't
be solved) for which I have about one more week of time. I'm happy to
test any new releases. :)
