I used to have auto login in Mythbuntu 10.04. After reintroducing it, I foung it as a workaround also to this black screen bug. So command: sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and configure: autologin-user=<YOUR-USERNAME> autologin-user-timeout=0 user-session=mythbuntu
