Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
The computer is running 9.04 with all current updates installed. The Open Source Nvidia driver worked pretty well for a couple of days. However, I received screen artifacts inside VMWare guests (in particular, Fedora 7). The artifacts were little horizontal black lines randomly placed on the screen. I switched to using version 180 of the proprietary driver and this fixed the artifacts. However, I've now had the VMware F7 guest crash completely - just stop. I've also had the computer completely hang on a number of occasions. The screens continue to display what was there, but the system is dead otherwise. I've now upgraded to version 185 of the proprietary driver and will monitor the situation (artifacts are still gone, btw). Of course, this might be nothing to do with the video driver, but that's my strong suspicion. If I get another crash, I'll update this report and switch back to the Open Source driver for further information gathering.
