Pau: Did you by any chance test with just python-gtk2 and not pkg-config? Python-gtk2 is needed for some Ubuntu-specific stuff, but Debian doesn't include pkg-config either and developers over there aren't seeing a problem. Did you bring up pkg-config because of code inspection or because it actually gave an error about it? There is a fallback in the code for if pkg-config isn't present.
