I suggest a good workaround for this bug, and also bug 880707, is to enable:
   "Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint"
in the Workarounds section of ccsm. You might also need to tick "Don't wait for 
video sync".

Now for the first time in a long time I have a tear-free sandybridge
graphics experience.

If you don't have ccsm installed, you can get it by installing package
"compizconfig-settings-manager".
