Public bug reported:

Laptop is blank, external works fine in Unity. I have no problems
configuring the monitors using systemsettings in KDE, systemsettings
fails however when trying to configure the monitors in Unity, and I have
to revert to what I'm stuck with. And of course, I've tried playing with
the default display manager in Ubuntu. Help please!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/700757 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/745112

might be related.

I am using x86_64, my laptop is an ideapad b570, and my external monitor
is an older syncmaster that I've used with several distros previously.

The above was filed at http://askubuntu.com/questions/86220/use-of-
multiple-monitors-in-kubuntu-but-not-in-ubuntu and then I realized it
might be more appropriate to report here.
