<theory> I think Jason said he was using Nvidia (which is non-KMS). It
wouldn't be surprising if the nvidia driver didn't clear the video
memory used by the new mode or page. That's not necessarily a driver
bug, but still possibly an application bug for assuming anything about
the state of the framebuffer after a mode change. </theory>
