** Description changed:

I'm running Precise with proposed enabled, using nouveau with a NVIDIA
Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600M GT] [10de:0407]. When loggin in to Ubuntu
(3D) the screen looks scrambled, sometimes like a mosaic. This takes a
few seconds before showing the wallpaper and then loading the desktop
- (login screenshot). When logging into Ubuntu 2D it the same thing plus a
- completely gray screen that takes other few seconds before loading the
- desktop (login2d screenshot). This is reproducible every time I login
- after a restart. It also happens if I login using a different user. It
- doesn't happen once I log back in to my user's session, only at the
- first login after a restart.
