Actually, looking at the files it isn't a GPU lockup but rather another xserver crash in the input layer (synaptics). We're seeing a rash of these lately. Chase has put in some multitouch changes into synaptics on the Ubuntu side recently, and we're wondering if that could be injecting bad data somewhere or something.
** Description changed: Was using the window manager to resize windows and switch between them when I got this lock up. I collected dmesg.txt, Xorg.0.log and i915_error_state as requested in the wiki, I will attach those. + + Backtrace: + [ 8161.471] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x7fb81f3961b6] + [ 8161.471] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x18c05a) [0x7fb81f39a05a] + [ 8161.471] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7fb81e534000+0xfcb0) [0x7fb81e543cb0] + [ 8161.471] 3: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x6b945) [0x7fb81f279945] + [ 8161.471] 4: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x62d97) [0x7fb81f270d97] + [ 8161.471] 5: /usr/bin/X (GetPointerEvents+0x103) [0x7fb81f271fd3] + [ 8161.471] 6: /usr/bin/X (QueuePointerEvents+0x1d) [0x7fb81f27242d] + [ 8161.471] 7: /usr/bin/X (xf86PostMotionEvent+0xd8) [0x7fb81f2adf08] + [ 8161.471] 8: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so (0x7fb8190c3000+0x4d9b) [0x7fb8190c7d9b] + [ 8161.471] 9: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so (0x7fb8190c3000+0x6a7e) [0x7fb8190c9a7e] + [ 8161.471] 10: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x8ac47) [0x7fb81f298c47] + [ 8161.471] 11: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0xb0b2a) [0x7fb81f2beb2a] + [ 8161.471] 12: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7fb81e534000+0xfcb0) [0x7fb81e543cb0] + [ 8161.472] 13: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (ioctl+0x7) [0x7fb81d492fe7] + [ 8161.472] 14: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdrm.so.2 (drmIoctl+0x28) [0x7fb81ba27158] + [ 8161.472] 15: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdrm_intel.so.1 (0x7fb81b3b2000+0x61a3) [0x7fb81b3b81a3] + [ 8161.472] 16: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7fb81b5cd000+0xb502) [0x7fb81b5d8502] + [ 8161.472] 17: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7fb81b5cd000+0x120c8) [0x7fb81b5df0c8] + [ 8161.472] 18: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7fb81b5cd000+0x37fce) [0x7fb81b604fce] + [ 8161.472] 19: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x10e726) [0x7fb81f31c726] + [ 8161.472] 20: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x4e6f1) [0x7fb81f25c6f1] + [ 8161.472] 21: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x3d61a) [0x7fb81f24b61a] + [ 8161.472] 22: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7fb81d3cb76d] + [ 8161.472] 23: /usr/bin/X (0x7fb81f20e000+0x3d90d) [0x7fb81f24b90d] + [ 8161.472] Segmentation fault at address 0x212dd370 + [ 8161.472] + Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault).
