Public bug reported: Today when I connect to external display (both from suspend or when the laptop is running), display freezes with random colors on it. Neither keyboard or mouse is responsive. Even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not work. I could only reboot using kernel command SysRq-reisub.
Last week there was no such problem (till Mar 24, 2012, and in the past two days I have not tested it). Thus it may be a problem of some recently updated packages.
