You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 and running Ubuntu Maverick. I have 5 keys that don't work (numbered 1 to 5), you can see them on a picture of the keyboard (http://www.apeshop.com.au/images/computers_it/Accessories/Keyboards/MICROSOFT/MS%28MST8485%29.jpg)
When I press these buttons I don't get an event in xev. For the other special keys there is no issue, for those I always get a keycode. My keyboard is indentified correctly in dmseg : [ 2.166500] usbcore: registered new interface driver hiddev [ 2.169963] generic-usb 0003:046D:C069.0001: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB Laser Mouse] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2.2/input0 [ 2.177561] generic-usb 0003:045E:0730.0002: input,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Keyboard [Microsoft Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard 3000] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2.4/input0 [ 2.191938] generic-usb 0003:045E:0730.0003: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Device [Microsoft Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard 3000] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2.4/input1 [ 2.191947] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbhid [ 2.191948] usbhid: USB HID core driver [ 7691.305760] generic-usb 0003:045E:0730.0004: input,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Keyboard [Microsoft Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard 3000] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2.3/input0 [ 7691.320366] generic-usb 0003:045E:0730.0005: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Device [Microsoft Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard 3000] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2.3/input1 This is an example of the xev event for one of the working buttons (Homepage) : KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x4c00001, root 0xb3, subw 0x0, time 8752263, (51,103), root:(58,152), state 0x10, keycode 180 (keysym 0x1008ff18, XF86HomePage), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x4c00001, root 0xb3, subw 0x0, time 8752495, (51,103), root:(58,152), state 0x10, keycode 180 (keysym 0x1008ff18, XF86HomePage), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False I also saw another related bug (#636311), but that seems like a different problem.
