In 11.10, nvidia-settings has to be launched from konsole using kdesudo.
It will complain when saving the settings the first time, but it will
work: settings will survive a reboot.

The default menu entry in KDE launcher should be changed in 12.4 to
include kdesudo and xorg.conf should be modified so that nvidia-settings
can save its settings without complaining about any errors.
