Good news. I decided to try suspend/hiberate today on a whim (just once). Apparently, there is only one option now, just suspend. Anyway, I didn't expect it to work, but my upgrade o Precise has suspend working, at least with 3.2.0-23-generic. The upgrade is still a beta, but hopefully this sticks, and all the kernels get this capability.
