I didn' t try that, but I remember that someone having this card (which is the same I have on my pavilion and the same you have) stated that he didn' t succeed to install the proprietary drivers on debian and ubuntu while he could on Mandriva without problems. I' d link you the post but I can' t remember where I have read that.
