Hi Bryce I take on board what you are saying but like most of us here and many others out there who have upgraded from a previous version of Ubuntu to 12.04 whether by fresh install or update we expected at a least this these type of basic problems i.e. Graphic Card issues would have been ironed out.
I am aware that 295.40 was a security update of 295.33 but .40 is just not working. With many PC's out there using the Nvidia Cards particularly Series 6 and 7 we just want a system that works as it is supposed to not one that crashes, freezes or just does not boot up every time we install the .40 driver. I don't think any Linux based system would receive priority as far as Nvidia go as we are only a minority cummunity out there in the Windows dominated world. Nvidia might fix it today, tomorrow or next week month who knows. In the mean time many are left pulling their hair out with operating systems that just don't work.
