I tried adding the lines in #2 to a xorg.conf file but it didn't seem to help for my ThinkPad X200. The mouse is barely usable and I see high cpu usage for kworker in top. It happens every time I use my laptop, but usually not for the first few minutes, so if there is a good way to debug kworker issues I could probably help track down the problem.
