  My computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad x220, to which I've attached a Samsung
  SyncMaster P2450 monitor, using the DisplayPort digital connection. The
  monitor periodically goes dark (blank) for a half-second to a second,
  then comes back on. This does not appear to happen with the laptop
  screen when I'm using that alone.
  
  I can't replicate this with any specific actions, though it is my sense
  that it's occurring when browsing (but I'm not even sure about that).
