This is still present with latest driver and latest kernel. I've tried
all sorts of combinations with kernel/driver version.

Right now am running:
Linux Kernel 3.5.0-10-generic
nVidia Driver 304.37

nVidia seems to be unable to reproduce this and doesn't really look
interested to fix the issue in the first place. As far as I've seen this
happens a lot with GT520 cards. In my case, my system boots normally
once in ever 10 tries. Not a stability I expect from Linux system.
