not sure what to add really, I think it only happens on the first login from a cold boot (that seems to be the only way I can reproduce it now) seems I am not the only person with this issue http://askubuntu.com/questions/126455/ubuntu-12-04-dual-monitor-reset-bug I have tried deleting the monitors.xml and setting up the screens again, makes no difference, still flips to mirrored with that capability changed message nearly 60 seconds into the xorg.0.log.
