Public bug reported: I've just upgraded my desktop from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 (32 bit). Everything works fine till the lightdm login screen: after I gave my password nothing happened, and login screen was not responsive either. Switching back to text console, I noticed that several things (which usually run in a unity session) runs. But where? Then I had the odd idea that maybe it runs on the "headless" X server, xserver-xephyr or xvfb or so. Since only xserver-xephyr was installed, I removed that package. Stopping then starting lightdm service, after removing xserver-xephyr cured the problem. Now I am curious if it's worth to report or not, that it seems xserver-xephyr became the default X server somehow during the upgrade.
