I have performed some bisecting on the actual xf86-video-intel driver and the 
commit to blame is this one:

I have prepared a patch which reverts the change above against the current 
official package of xserver-xorg-video-intel and the resulting package can be 
found on my PPA:

I also attach the aforementioned patch
