I prefer to look at Xorg.0.log, searching for Chipset line. I find it easier for newer chipsets like GM45 and Q45 wich has a pretty non- descriptive lspci description. It is normal. I have seen several bug reports lately where there is no xorg.conf and on my Karmic installation there is none either.
