I don't recall if I tried installing fglrx-updates, but I did install the intel driver and the fglrx.
The symptom after installing your drivers is low graphics mode. After installing the official drivers I get the background with no window borders and no menus. In both of these attempts I installed from a fresh install of 12.10. I mistakenly made this previous bug report when using your workaround if this helps: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1075688 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076872 Title: [HP Probook 4530s] Unity does not load with fglrx-installer in 12.10 AMD Radeon™ HD 6490M To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1076872/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
