I have now had to rebuild my laptop and now running 3.5.0-17-generic kernel and all is working again. When I perform a sudo apt-get upgrade, it informs me that there is a new kernal available but it is holding it back. This is obviously 3.7.0-4.12-generic but this time, I will not force the upgrade as I know this will break!
