Hello, does anyone know whether it is safe for now (and the future) to update xserver-xorg and its dependencies to the newest versions without breaking compatibility with the nvidia-96 branch of gfx drivers? I am so happy that I was able to make my old NV18 gpu running on a fresh install of LTS 12.04 Lubuntu after I experienced mysterious graphical glitches and severe system slowdowns with nouveau driver modules when I gave Lubuntu 12.10 a try.
It took me hours and hours of troubleshooting to find out, that the lack of support for legacy nvidia gpus was causing the hassle in the first place. And now I am afraid of breaking the running system again with an update of the xserver, that is, if i got it right, on the brink to be updated to a new (and yet unsupported?!) ABI version. What would you experts suggest? Fix a certain xserver version? Thank you very much, especially those who helped to make nvidia-96 drivers working in 12.x releases! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948053 Title: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/948053/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
